Some Desserts are Evil
I was reminded today of something great I had to eat in Canada many years ago. Yes, you heard me right, I had something great to eat in Canada.
Canadian's aren't known for their great food (sorry guys, it's true). Distinctive Canadian dishes include French Fries with gravy and cheese curds...and, that's about it. Ok, ok...in all seriousness, Canadian cuisine borrows from many cultures and varies by location. Indian food is prominent in a lot of major Canadian cities because of close ties to Indian from the British Empire. But Seafood dishes, wild game and the like all are featured in Canadian cuisine. But now...now we're talking dessert.
At a chain restaurant named Montana's just outside Toronto, I had a great dessert...an evil dessert.
Like so many great desserts, it starts with Cheesecake (there's always room for Cheesecake...but that's a different story).
Cheesecake was just a component here though. This was a very nice piece of cheesecake which had been wrapped carefully in a Flour Tortilla, then deep fried. Yes...deep fried.
When it came out of the deep fryer, they poured a berry reduction (boysenberry I think, maybe blueberry) over the top, then sprinkled it with powdered sugar and topped it with a few very large dollops of fresh whipped cream.
Now...why can't I find this everywhere? I mean, seriously...this should be available in abundance!!
While I had other interesting culinary experiences in Canada (Milk in a bag, cold lo mein in bed, bad fast food after way too much beer) ...flour tortilla wrapped, deep fried, cheesecake with berries, powdered sugar and whip cream tops the list easily.

I find that dessert at Mexican restaurants around here. As you know, deep fried is always good for me!

Who woulda thought that the Texan would enjoy deep-fried cheesecake? Sounds damn good, tho. And I must admit I am intrigued by the "milk in a bag" comment...did that happen at the same time as all the other "additional experiences?"....heh.
